SUNSHINE Coast Council is hoping a white knight investor will rescue motorists from Mooloolaba's car parking madness.

As thousands converged on the tourist strip yesterday to enjoy the sunshine on the beach, a shortage of car parks left many tourists spending more time doing laps of The Esplanade and Parkyn Parade.

Guests arriving for the launch of the Mooloolaba Yacht Club's sailing season, including Mayor Mark Jamieson and Sport Minister Steve Dickson, admitted they struggled to find a free legal space.

The Merlin entertainment group has invested about $4 million in an upgrade of Underwater World, but many of its guests were left circling its main car park as well.

Cr Jamieson said the council was holding talks with those in the paid parking industry with the hope that someone would invest in a multi-storey car park for Mooloolaba.

He said he was also aeagera to see Merlin's redevelopment plans for The Wharf and how they might improve both access and car parking. …
