WE, MY husband and I, and our afamilya of pets, have just returned from a caravan trip to Mount Surprise, on the eastern section of the Savannah Way.

I am encouraged to write this after reading the article (The Gympie Times, September 22) on holidaying with your dog.

The advice given is good and probably easy enough to follow if you only have a dog.

Crazy - maybe, eccentric - definitely! We have been taking all of our pets on every trip we go on for about 30 or more years now. This trip it was three bengal cats, two moggies and one English bull terrier.

It is about the same amount of trouble as travelling with five children - I know as I have six children, now all adults.

We set our car up with large, airy cages and comfortable mattresses.

In the hot weather, in addition to the car air-conditioning, we cover the side windows (back) and back window with silver windscreen protectors. Every stop (fairly frequently) we take the akidsa into the caravan with us for R and R. …
