DAVID Abraham says many people don't realise how difficult it is to go to work every day not knowing if you will finish the day with a job.

The Queensland Nurses Union organiser for the central and western regions said simply going to work had become a mental struggle for many public servants wondering if they would get that dreaded tap on the shoulder.

Mr Abraham said the drawn-out wait between departmental job cut announcements and when people were being told their position was on the chopping block was wreaking havoc on people's lives.

He said many in the community didn't see the distressed human faces behind the redundancies.

Mr Abraham predicted Queensland Health would never recover from the massive cuts.

CQUniversity Dean of Health and Human Services Professor Andy Bridges said he understood Mr Abraham's comments.
