VISIBILITY has been poor, making spearing a difficult option.

It might just be my imagination but the weather does appear to have settled, which looks to be quite promising for the near future.

Coffs Harbour Bluewater Freedivers have started to get the ball rolling on the 2013 Australian Bluewater Classic.

This will be the 19th Classic and it has become the premier spear-fishing event in Australia.

The philosophy of the competition is grounded on sound conservation principles. The only species targeted are migratory predatory species and only one of each species is recorded per diver per day.

Last year more than half of the field did not land a fish. That might seem to the armchair environmentalist to be an indication of an ocean devoid of life but nothing could be further from the truth.

Every diver would have swum passed hundreds, if not thousands, of fish, in search of that one species they were targeting. …
