IT WAS news that stunned her.

Leonie Kingdom, 18, from Hervey Bay won the chance to have her music heard on a national stage and rub shoulders with key music industry contacts after taking out the Bundaberg heat of the Telstra Road to Discovery music development program, celebrating 10 years supporting emerging Australian musicians this year.

Leonie impressed the judges at Bundy in Bloom on Sunday with her unique voice, strong audience engagement and distinctive guitar playing, captivating the local crowd in the process.

Leonie performed two covers, the first My False by Matt Corby and the second Shelter by Birdy, which was chosen for their style suiting Leonie's vocal range, to take out the heat winner title.

aI'm so excited and shocked! It's such a great surprise, everyone else up here is so amazingly talented. I'm also looking forward to boot camp, to work with musicians, gain some tips and meet new friends,a Leonie said.

A self-taught musician, Leonie began playing guitar only four years ago at the age of 14, after being inspired during school holidays while listening to tracks by Australian pop singer/songwriter Missy Higgins. …
