CRICKET: Gympie's Travis Chandler provided to be a shining star bright in the Wide Bay Flames last match of the Bulls Masters Series on Sunday.

Chandler was the star with the ball taking a hat-trick as the Flames failed to defend their miserly total of 9-79 against Papua New Guinea.

The Flames were unable to get any momentum with the bat and finished their 20 overs at 9 for 79. Wide Bay teammate Josh McLean made the bulk of team's runs with 34 from 49 balls.

PNG reeled in the Flames' score with only three wickets down and it seemed they would take the win without loss after an opening stand of 61 by the men from the north.

While it was a loss for the Flames, Chandler said there was no loss of a[approximately]positivity' or momentum for the team.

aIt was all there, but I don't think we had enough training together,a Chandler said, after they lost all three games despite having a quality line-up.

He said the weekend playing for the Flames, with contracted Queensland Bulls' players Lee Carseldine and Corey Barsby, was not only a great cricketing experience, but a useful learning tool. …
