Difficult Identifying Plane Crash Victims

IDENTIFYING the remains of the six people killed in a high-impact air crash in the Sunshine Coast hinterland could take days to complete.

Queensland Police Disaster Victim Identification crews began the task of identifying and recovering the bodies yesterday, after the vintage bi-plane slammed into the side of a hill 15km west of Imbil on Monday afternoon.

Pilot Des Porter and his five passengers a his wife Kath and their long-time friends Les and Janice D'evlin, and John and Carol Dawson a were killed when the plane went down.

The De Havilland DH84 Dragon was found on Wednesday after an intensive aerial search which involved 15 helicopters and two fixed-wing planes.

Superintendent Chris Sang visited the scene yesterday, describing the crash site as catastrophic. aIt was quite tragic,a Mr Sang said.

aIt was a horrific thing for six people to die in a plane crash like that.

aIt does look as if some of the people have been thrown forward when the plane crashed and landed in the trees. …
