I READ the Karl Klein scaremongering (FCC 26/9/12) with great interest and I can assure him and others that there are far more than just a handful of individuals that want the nets removed from the aYellowa Conservation Zones in our Great Sandy Marine Park.

I take photographs of regular illegal commercial practices in the Go Slow (Turtle and Dugong) protection areas and report them to DERM and Marine Parks.

I have, along with many others, been lobbing the State Government to remove commercial netting from the Great Sandy Marine Park Conservation zones and bring our marine park back into line with every other marine park in the country (possibly the world).

This commercial netting is also taking away valuable sports fish that could dramatically improve recreational angling in our region and increase tourism that all the communities along the Fraser Coast would benefit from!

I own and operate Fraser Coast Sportfishing Adventures, and have done for the past 10 years, and have seen the decline in our tourist-attracting sport fish species in both size and numbers due to over fishing. …
