WIRAC Cracking Down on Unofficial Coaching

THE complaint received by WIRAC regarding the conduct of a swimming coach, as reported in the Daily News on September 29, has been dealt with internally and the mother who was involved has received an apology.

However the incident has resulted in strict rules being handed down to Warwick Swimming Club members regarding who they can and cannot swim with.

The new rules are understood to be directed at a social group of adults and children who use the WIRAC pool.

A resident, who swims there regularly and did not want to be named, said the social swimming group had been in place since 2004.

A Warwick Swimming Club official said under new rules, no child under 18 years of age can be involved in any type of coaching or training in WIRAC aquatic areas with adult members of the club unless the adult club member holds coaching qualifications, $20 million public liability insurance, a blue card and pays a lane hire fee. …
