WHAT do you do for a career when your father is the editor of the Fraser Coast Chronicle? That was the question Steve Anderson faced over 25 years ago when his father, Andy Anderson packed up the family and moved from Sydney to Maryborough to take on the role of Chronicle editor.

aI suppose a lot of people would have assumed I would take up a career in the newspaper industry, given my family background,a Steve said.

aAnd in a way I did, at least at first.

aI completed my apprenticeship as a compositor for the Chronicle but shortly after finishing it I moved into advertising sales.

aI even got to write the fishing pages for the paper in those days, so I guess you could say I was following in my father's footsteps.a

But after having had a taste of the cut and thrust of sales Steve was hooked and knew what his future would be.

aWhile I was working in advertising sales at the Chronicle I completed an Advanced Real Estate Management course with TAFE.

aAfter that I knew that real estate was the industry I wanted to be involved in,a he said.

After working for Wal Pavey's Realty and then property developer Graeme Barrie in Maryborough Steve took the plunge and opened his own real estate office.

He held the Elders franchise and then purchased Prestige Properties in Lennox Street.

It was during this time that Steve would meet real estate agent Steve Gilchrist .

aSteve worked for me at Prestige and sometime after I sold the business we decided to open a new agency, appropriately called A & G Realty.a

Finding a location for this new venture was to be pivotal in its success.

The office they found was in the perfect location in Adelaide Street opposite the Friendly's Pharmacy.

aActually Gilly found this place, it was once the office for Sunstate Travel and to this day, over five years after we moved in, we still have people coming in and wondering if they can book their holidays through us,a Steve laughed. …
