LATEST data showing significant reductions in the rate of population growth in the south-east corner will be considered during a review of the SEQ Regional Plan next year.

But the State Government is remaining tight-lipped about whether the changing trend will result in a reduction of the plan's population targets through to 2031.

The Sunshine Coast draft planning scheme released by the council for comment last Friday, provided for a population of 500,000 by 2031 in line with State Government requirements.

The Government has announced the SEQ Regional Plan will be reviewed next year, with an adapted framework to be introduced in 2014.

Questions put to Local Government, Planning and Infrastructure Minister Jeff Seeney about whether the review would include any downward adjustment in the plan's population targets received a one-line response from a Government spokesman.

He said only that athe review of the SEQ Regional Plan will commence in 2013 a population targets will be an input into this process''. …
