TWO hockey competitions aimed at giving women and juniors fun and valuable match experience are open for entries.

Ballina Hockey Club's women's summer nines event aims to give both experienced players and newcomers an opportunity to play over the summer months.

The initiative, which will run for the next few weeks every Thursday, also aims to provide participants with a welcome fitness boost.

Organiser Sophie Leonard said the contest, which will pit teams of nine-a-side against each other, had great benefits for all involved.
