ladder for london Evening Standard Campaign THE first 10 apprentices recruited under the Evening Standard's Ladder for London campaign have started work at one of the world's most prestigious investment banks.

Just one month after we launched our initiative to help jobless young Londoners into work, the recruits -- aged 18 to 21 and with ethnicities reflecting the capital's diversity -- had their induction day at Goldman Sachs. New apprentice Ismael Chand said: "This is a momentous day, the one we will look back on in 20 years and say, 'That was the day our lives changed for ever'."

The super-keen recruits, who did their preapprenticeship training with our campaign partner City Gateway, wore wide smiles and buzzed with excitement as they arrived at Goldman Sachs's head office in Fleet Street an hour early for their 10am start.
