Man Charged with Assault after Police Crackdown at Venues

A MAN has been charged with serious assault of a police officer after he allegedly spat in an officer's face over the weekend.

The man was arrested and charged as part of Operation Raven, a two-day police stint across Mackay's CBD and Whitsundays' Airlie Beach.

Mackay district tactician officer Senior Sergeant Jeremy Novosel said the operation resulted in 38 arrests and notices to appear and 53 charges being laid.

Snr Sgt Novosel said police were targeting licensed venues and cracking down on liquor licensing non-compliance, street offences, antisocial behaviour and looking to maintain peace and good order.
