Nightclub Closure Sparks an Online Row

AN online row has erupted over plans to close the University of Southern Queensland Student Guild's night spot, the USQ Club.

Guild president Simon Playford yesterday would not give his opinion on the closure but said it was part of changes to management of the Student Guild.

However, Mr Playford responded to claims by USQ corporate communications director Dr Aidan Burke that the club was being closed due to drug use, fighting and other anti-social behaviour.

aWe have put in a lot of implementations to counteract a lot of that stuff,a Mr Playford said.

Meanwhile, Chronicle readers have offered criticism and support of the closure and the reasoning behind it.

aAs someone that does regularly attend this venue I can confidently say that there is most definitely not a higher percentage of drug or violence- related issues at the USQ Club, than anywhere else in Toowoomba,a one online reader commented. …
