ENTRIES ROLL IN

THERE'S a flurry of activity at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum this week with the arrival of hundreds of entries for the 2012 Rio Tinto Alcan Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards.

It's not too late to get your entry in, with submissions open until 5pm, Saturday.

This is the 37th presentation of the annual art awards, which were established in 1976 by the Gladstone Artists Club as a tribute to their patron Martin Hanson MLA.

Monto artist Anne Groundwater judged the works in 1976. This year Dr Miranda Wallace, curatorial manager of international art, exhibitions and research at the Queensland Art Gallery is charged with the challenge of allocating $22,950 across 13 awards including the overall award a the $10,000 Rio Tinto Alcan Martin Hanson Memorial Art Award.

Next week, behind closed doors, the gallery/museum will undergo a transformation as staff and volunteers work to install the exhibition of entries before re-opening at 10am Saturday, November 10 with a fantastic day of arts-focussed events.

The judge's floor talk and artists' gold coin donation lunch starts at 11.30am, the judge's illustrated talk at 2pm and the gala presentation of awards and exhibition launch at 6.30pm.

During the evening presentation, guests will be entertained by multi award-winning choir Company of Voices, performing on the gallery/museum steps on arrival and in the courtyard after the formalities.
