THE debate has continued to roll on over the behaviour of motorists putting cyclists at risk in several areas of Rockhampton.

Brett Ruff, a Rockhampton cyclist, started the community discussion over his decision to use a helmet-mounted video camera to record the dangers cyclists face on Rockhampton roads as evidence.

The story sparked an immediate reaction on the Bully's website, as well as letters to the editor, all looking to share their views on this contentious issue.

However, many of the comments have been highly critical of Brett and his campaign, drawing some strong opinions from many online commenters.

Brett responded to his critics yesterday and stated that the point of the story was C[pounds sterling]not to say all motorists are bad and all cyclists are good. The reality of it is that there are idiots out there doing both.C[yen]

YOU can all make points for safety and for commonsense, but the reality is that there are rules out there and those rules need to be obeyed.

To the motorists if you see a cyclist doing the wrong (illegal) thing Co and please make sure it is something illegal and not just something that you interpret to be wrong Co you are quite welcome to record it and give details to the police.

If you need a helmet camera like mine I can refer you to a good bike shop that can supply them for you.

I will be doing the same with motorists.

To those that ask for the footage from my rides I am more than happy to supply the footage if you have a 500GB hard drive to put it on.

You will see from it that most of my rides are with junior riders and as the senior rider in the group it is my responsibility to protect those riders.

Where appropriate we ride single file if it's not a danger to the riders.

As far as the roadworks on Yeppen go, we have given up on riding single file and will always take up the lane as it is the safest option for us. If we ride single file as far left as possible cars always squeeze past and push us into the barriers. …
