WHEN it comes to the races, it's not only about lasting the distance for the horses but also for the race-goers who do all they can to make the most of the day.

Before you've even hit the track there are a few things you need to do including wearing your shoes in, even if you are a guy. There is nothing worse than having to put up with sore feet and blisters on the day. If you are really serious, head outside and practice walking on the grass beforehand.

When packing what you need on the day, remember to pack your ID or you won't even get past the gate, bring plenty of cash so you don't spend half your day lining up at the ATM and, for the ladies, don't leave behind your touch-up essentials like lip gloss, foundation and eye-liner.

Don't forget to pack sunscreen and apply it several times during the course of the day, too. …
