Policewoman Collapses and Dies Chasing Youths after Phone Robbery

A WOMAN detective collapsed and died as she chased a suspected mugger in Camden.

Detective Constable Adele Cashman, 30, was part of a back-up team called by uniformed officers after a smartphone was snatched by two youths from a 59-year-old woman in Haverstock Hill.

The officer and a colleague leapt from their patrol car and raced after one suspect in Belsize Park Gardens but Dc Cashman collapsed there just after 9.30pm. She was taken to the Royal Free Hospital but died 90 minutes later last night.

Two suspects, both aged 17, were arrested nearby, one of them by the officer who gave chase with Dc Cashman.

A phone was also recovered.

Tributes were paid to Dc Cashman today, and colleagues at the scene were visibly upset.

Acting borough commander Richard Tucker said: "Adele was a much loved and wholly dedicated officer. We at Camden are completely devastated at her sudden passing and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this tragically sad time. …
