GYMPIE Regional Council wants the Kandanga War Memorial out of the road a but in a good way.

Veterans and their Mary Valley admirers yesterday expressed their gratitude to the council for agreeing to realign the road reserve on which the memorial statue was built.

They also warmly welcomed the State Government's pre-Remembrance Day gift of the land around the memorial, effectively formalising its current unofficial use as a public park.

YESTERDAY'S State Government gift of Kandanga War Memorial land to the people was an important Remembrance Day gesture to the Mary Valley, Gympie MP David Gibson said yesterday.

The State Government yesterday transferred the once privately owned land, which was bought for the Traveston Crossing Dam project.

Mr Gibson, who also chairs the Mary Valley Advisory Group, said the handover was an occasion for reflecting aon where the Valley had come from and what it has been througha.

Deputy Premier and Planning Minister Jeff Seeney said the timing of the transfer was a good fit with tomorrow's Remembrance Day commemorations. …
