GRINNING from ear to ear, 10-year-old Blake Hughes could hardly believe that he had won the Carpet Court's statewide writing competition for the region.

A class from Bajool State School is now the proud owner of $1000 worth of new books and a colourful reading mat after Year 4 student Blake Hughes won the inaugural Trend Interiors Carpet Court Storybook Challenge.

Blake submitted a story about what he loves the most in his community, winning the prize for his classroom, as well as a book package worth $250 for himself. Blake's story talked about his love for the land and riding on quad bikes.

Trend Interiors Carpet Court in Rockhampton reported an overwhelming response from the local community to the inaugural Storybook Challenge, with wonderfully creative stories and pictures submitted from primary schools in the local area.

Blake and students at the school are looking forward to 125th celebrations on Saturday, March 16. For more information phone 0749 346 128.
