Good Show Means Sess Is Ful of Hope

STEPHANE SESSEGNON insists Sunderland should take heart from their performance at Everton last week instead of bemoaning their luck.

At Goodison Park, the Black Cats took the lead and looked on course for their first away win of the season until the Toffeemen hit back with two goals in as many minutes in the final quarter-of-an-hour to leave them deflated.

That defeat means Sunderland go to Fulham on Sunday having won just one of their ten league games so far and having picked up only two points from their last five games.

However, Sessegnon believes the Wearsiders must focus on the positives from their Everton performance and concentrate on picking up points at Craven Cottage.

The Benin international said: "There were a lot of positives against Everton and we have to take them into this weekend because it is a big game at Fulham.

"It is another chance for us to get the win we need.

"We have had a full week of training to prepare and there is more to encourage us going forward into the next few games.

"If we had come away with a 1-0 win at Everton it would have been a massive boost.

"We played a good match and we were all disappointed we were not able to come away with three points again.

"We created far more chances at Everton and let's hope we can do the same at Fulham."

Sunderland have found goals - and chances - hard to come by in recent weeks, finding the net just once in five games prior to their trip to Everton.

However, on Merseyside they offered more of an attacking threat, creating three good chances before Adam Johnson put them in front on the stroke of half-time.

Sessegnon added: "It was much better. It's clear from the chances we created in the first 45 minutes it was better than previous games.

"We knew we were facing a tough team, but we tried to get into the final third which we did well. …
