CRICKET: Gympie Gold continues to cruise at the top of the table after a big 279-160 win over a usually hard-batting Caloundra at Albert Park on Saturday.

Gympie emerged an easy winner in the Big Four shootout in round 5 of Sunshine Coast Cricket Association Division 1 fixtures, accounting for Caloundra despite the side featuring opening batsmen Rod Gibbs and former Gympie player, Sunshine Coast Scorcher and Queensland rep Matthew Kerr.

The Gold has set the standard all season and Caloundra was to provide the acid test.

However the toss was the only win for Rod Gibbs as he sent the home side in, only for his bowlers to donate Gympie a 12th and probably 13th batsman with 46 sundries, including 35 wides.

On a deck where the Gold top order all got starts, only Ashley Sippel passed the half century mark, but the accumulation reached 9-279 at the 50-over mark, giving the visitors a huge chase. …
