Ceremony to Honour Work of Region's Disabled Sports Heroes

PERFORMERS and participants in disability sport will be given the opportunity to thank their sporting heroes at the 2012 North East Disability Sports Awards.

Nominations are now open for the awards, which will see performers, clubs, coaches and volunteers from across the region recognised for their commitment to their sport.

The ceremony will build on the euphoria of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, in which Team GB and Paralympics GB won 65 and 120 medals respectively.

Jean Lordon, chairman of the Disability Awards Organising Committee, said: "We are celebrating a fantastic year of sport full of gold medals and many personal bests by our disabled athletes and rising stars.

"The Awards will celebrate their sporting performances and also the commitment, skills and enthusiasm of the volunteers who are crucial in supporting community sport and the individuals who achieve success at the highest levels.

"The North East is passionate about sport and we look forward to receiving excellent nominations from across the region. …
