CANCER sufferer Carole Frost today angrily hit out after the local council said she was dead.

Ms Frost is very much alive and so was horrified when a letter declaring her deceased landed on her doormat.

The error caused heartache for the 56-year-old. The Gateshead Council letter, apologising for her loss, said Miss Frost's family owed money to Home Day Care Services, which helped her in her home, before she cancelled its services in August.

Today Miss Frost, who was diagnosed with bladder cancer, told of her distress.

She said: "These people said I was dead. I'm ill but I'm very much alive. It was very upsetting. I was absolutely gutted when I opened the letter.

"I just don't know who told them I was dead."

Carers visited Miss Frost's home in Birtley, Gateshead, four days a week for two hours to help her with jobs around the house.

She cancelled the facility in August when she no longer needed the help.

The letter states that her family owed more than PS1,200 to the service. …
