A MAJOR event is to be staged on Teesside to help match the skills of potential employees with the needs of local companies.

The Tees Valley Skills event will highlight education, training and career opportunities on offer in the area as well as offering advice to students and unemployed young adults or those looking for a change of career.

The largest skills event for 14 to 25-year-olds in the area will take place on Thursday, December 6 at the Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough.

It is being hosted by Tees Valley Unlimited, the local enterprise partnership, in association with Stockton Riverside, Redcar and Cleveland, Darlington and Middlesbrough colleges, and World Skills.

Teesside companies are being invited to sign up for the event, where they will be able to showcase careers within their sector and what skills and qualifications are needed to join their workforce.

Tees Valley Unlimited managing director, Stephen Catchpole, said: "If Tees Valley is to prosper and reach its full economic potential, it is imperative that the future generation of employees is equipped with the necessary skills and qualifications to meet companies' requirements. …
