A TEENAGER'S life has been transformed by winning an apprenticeship at a Michelinstarred London restaurant in a nationwide contest.

Abigail Watson, 18, was picked from thousands of hopefuls for a scholarship at Le Cordon Bleu school in Bloomsbury and a nine-month placement at Tom Aikens's Chelsea restaurant, Tom's Kitchen, after impressing judges with her enthusiasm.

Miss Watson spoke about her love of cooking today as the top culinary school prepares to launch a fresh search for young talent on its Le Grande Diplome course. This time, the winner will be awarded an apprenticeship with Pierre Koffmann.

After the initial selection process, Miss Watson, who is from Sevenoaks but is living in paid-for accommodation in Oxford Street as part of Le Grand Diplome, was then chosen from a final shortlist of eight, who were asked to make a salmon florentine and an apple tarte tatin.
