Mariners Are All at Sea in City Loss

THE two South Tyneside teams suffered heavy defeats in last night's Ebac Northern League First Division programme.

South Shields were hit for six at Durham City and remain at the bottom of the table.

It was the Mariners, though, who scored first through Jonny Wightman, but from then on it was all downhill as the goals flowed from Conor Winter (2), Gary Shaw, Scott Fenwick, James Oates and Jack Walker.

Hebburn Town would have moved into the top six had they won.

However, they were well beaten at West Auckland Town, who now have their sights on the championship after going out of the FA Carlsberg Vase to Dunston UTS.

Mattie Moffat, Richard Paxton and John Campbell fired the south west Durham side into a three-goal interval lead and, although Stephen Forster reduced the deficit, the outstanding Moffat set up Paul Garthwaite for West Auckland's fourth goal.

Matthew Slocombe was Consett's match-winner against Guisborough Town. …
