SURF LIFESAVING: Met Caloundra's Corey Jones will soon find out if it is all systems go or time for a tune-up.

The surf maverick will have his first real competitive hitout of the season at this weekend's Maroochy Classic carnival.

Given he does not train with any of his main rivals Co unlike many of the leading competitors Co the 26-year-old will use the carnival to gauge his form ahead of the Nutri-Grain Ironman Series' opening round at Perth on December 23.

He will know if he is tracking to improve on his eighth place in last season's series.

At last year's Maroochy Classic, Jones finished third in the ironman behind Matt Poole and Mitch Miller.

He then finished second behind Caine Eckstein at the Nutri-Grain series' opening round en route to finishing eighth overall in the series.
