Goomeri State School Shines; Principal Praises Year of Achievements as the School Celebrates Its Centenary

GOOMERI State School principal Leon Doorackers thanked the visiting dignitaries and outstanding results of his students at the school awards night on Thursday.

The following is an edited version of his speech:

aThroughout 2012, Goomeri State School P-10 has continued to work towards improved outcomes for all students through our school vision a[approximately]Everyone Learning & Achieving', he said.

a2012 has been Goomeri State School P-10's Centenary Year with a very successful celebration held on March 3.

aIn excess of 1500 past students and their families celebrated this milestone with us. This event was organised by a small group of volunteers but special mention must go to Kim Knight, Helen Isaac and Dean and Paula Wardell for their dedication to this celebration.

aTonight, at our Awards Night, we celebrate the individual achievements of our students. However, I believe that together as a school community we have established and are achieving high standards and expectations from all our students.

aReading comprehension has been our focus this year and all students have shown improvement in this area.

aThe dedicated staff at Goomeri State School P-10 have been responsible for much of our progress as well as our small, hard working group of parents involved in the P&C.

aWe value the support of parents where and when they can help, and we hope that this parental involvement increases in 2013.

aLooking ahead there are some very clear factors that, we as a school must focus on in order to continue to improve. Our teachers must continue to be diligent in understanding how each student learns, and provide environments that inspire and motivate students to learn and enjoy learning. If students enjoy learning, the challenges they encounter will be more easily met.

aTonight, the results of many dynamic and diverse partnerships between teachers and students are recognised.

aSome of Goomeri's highlights in 2012 include:

aThe school's Centenary celebrations.

aThe school's success and participation in numerous academic, community and sporting competitions.

aSchool participation in Anzac Day and the Pumpkin Festival. …
