NEWBURY'S Haynes, Hanson and Clark Conditions Stakes has long been established as a focal point for emerging two-yearolds - and it again provided a nascent talent in Wentworth.

The emphasis is firmly on next season for the Acclamation colt, who is owned by the Coolmore trio of John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith and has always appeared to be regarded as a prize asset by trainer Richard Hannon.

It was not an entirely straightforward victory in the mile race which has produced such stars as Shergar, Rainbow Quest and Authorized in the past, but it had been a similar story in Wentworth's previous start in a York maiden, and he was well on top by the finish.

Richard Hughes was briefly forced to shove the 8-11 favourite along but, once he was freed in space along the rail a furlong from home, he settled the matter efficiently by three-quarters of a length from Chief Havoc. Hughes said: "I thought he was very impressive.

"He got a bit lit up in the stalls and he went past a good horse.

"He looks big, strong and massive, but he's very weak underneath and he needs another winter on his back.

"I'm not sure he's a Guineas horse, I think he's more a French Derby horse.

"He does not have electrifying speed, but he's very weak and we'll see how he develops next season."

Wentworth is entered in the Dewhurst Stakes, but Hannon said: "I'll have to talk to the Coolmore firm and see what we do, but I might just finish him now. He'll be some horse next year."

There had been plenty of money for Jeremy Noseda's Grandeur, who justified 6-4 favouritism in the Dubai Duty Free Conditions Stakes.

Noseda said: "He keeps improving and did it quite nicely, although a stronger pace would have suited.

"I'll take him home and have a look, but I have something in my mind in three weeks."

Mark Johnston was forthcoming about plans for Penny Rose (5-2), who cast aside a couple of interesting-looking rivals in the Dubai Duty Free Full of Surprises E. …
