Isaac Sidney, 14, has been elected as North Tyneside's fourth Young Mayor.

The teen, who goes to North Shields' Marden High School, was the youngest of the borough's four candidates but stormed to victory with almost 40% of the vote.

Isaac, who will work closely with North Tyneside Council's mayor Linda Arkley, campaigned on cheaper travel for young people, better sports facilities, better sex education and raising awareness of sexual health issues among young people.

He was handed a badge of office and signed a formal Young Mayor's declaration at the council chamber at Cobalt Business Park last night.

He said: "I feel brilliant. I was hoping and, I'm not religious, I was praying that I would get elected.

"It is an overwhelming feeling and I am looking forward to the year ahead. It will be a fantastic experience and I will relish every minute of it. …
