ALAN PARDEW has urged his players to make sure the Toon Army's long trek to Southampton is one to remember.

For the second week running the Newcastle boss believes the need to repay the magnificent Geordie faithful is there for all to see.

He fully understood the boos after a disap-pointing 1-1 draw with Maritimo in front of 21,632 - the lowest crowd of his tenure.

However, for most of the game the fans were right behind Newcastle as they progressed into the knockout stages of the Europa League.

And Pardew today also acknowledged the efforts of the hardcore fans making their way to Hampshire.

"This is a long one for them," he said. "I thank them for Thursday because they got behind us. I just feel sorry for them in last 20 minutes.

"Maybe it was the result or a little bit of complacency. …
