Jealous Ex Jailed for Punch

JEALOUSY landed Bramley Stafford Giblett in trouble when he punched another man in the face, knocking him down a flight of stairs.

Giblett believed the man was in a relationship with his ex-partner, the Mackay Magistrates Court heard.

The 43-year-old originally pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm.

However, after the hearing, Magistrate Damien Dwyer found Giblett guilty of the offence, which occurred in Sarina on February 23 this year.

C[pounds sterling]It was based on jealously,C[yen] Mr Dwyer said. C[pounds sterling]You saw an opportunity to hit a rival and you took it. In my view, the evidence against you was overwhelming.C[yen]

Giblett's argument, told through defence solicitor Dave Ritchie, of ATSI legal services, was that the man fell down the stairs.

Three witnesses gave evidence during the hearing. The court heard that Giblett pushed the man first and then punched him in the face, which resulted in the man falling down the stairs, hitting the back of his head and briefly losing consciousness. …
