High Sheriff's Hooked on Idea to Help Young

Article excerpt

HIGH Sheriff of Northumberland Harriet Benson is putting on her waders to help local youth groups.

The High Sheriff's Fund is supporting the Youth Against Crime Awards by highlighting fly fishing in a national online raffle and auction of Tyne fishing beats, often inaccessible to the public, given by riparian owners including the Duke of Northumberland and Lord Allendale.

Both close on October 19. With 10 beats in the raffle and more than 10 in the auction, all for 2013, this is a big event in Tyne fishing.

FishPal hosts the auction at www.fishpal.com/FishingServices/Auctions/ FishNorthumbria For the PS10 raffle visit www.highsheriffnorthumberland2012.co.uk. Benson, of Humshaugh, said: "These groups are sometimes the only after-school activities these children take part in - it is often the only place to go.

"The leaders of these organisations are doing everything they can to encourage and support young people in the local community. "I hope anglers donate generously to support this worthy cause."

Jubilee Lakes' best trout, 8lb 12oz, was landed by Denis Woods of Middlesbrough.

Aldin Grange trout are still chasing anything near the surface.

Boxing Day match anglers who need to pay should call Mick on 0790 153 8587.

At South Linden, P Talbolt of Cramlington caught 10, keeping three while G Maddison of Bedlington caught and released 10. …
