WITH the final exams for Victorian students finishing last week, scores of southern Schoolies have joined other revellers in Byron Bay for celebrations.

To ensure a safe environment for travelling teenagers, Police Transport Command officers accompanied several hundred of these northern bound Schoolies on an overnight train on Friday from Sydney's Central Station to Casino Railway Station.

No issues with the youngsters were encountered by Police on the XPT, although officers did have to deal with an intoxicated 40-year-old Nabiac man who was reportedly drinking at Taree Railway Station.

Police will continue performing high visibility patrols in Byron Bay with a focus on public transport interchanges for the next few days.

A group of school leavers from Melbourne's Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School, including 18-year-olds Mikayla Mezo, Katia Amerena, Oriana Belanti and Allie Natoli, arrived in Byron Bay on Saturday for a week-long stay, and couldn't be happier. …
