On the Run for Funds; Park Runners Help Boost Cancer Research

A COMMUNITY-SPIRITED group of runners celebrated a landmark run with a charity effort for a cause close to their hearts.

Runners at Middlesbrough's Stewart Park Saturday morning 5k chose to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

One regular at the run is Mike Wren, 45, from Marton, whose daughter Charlotte died aged three in 2007 after suffering from juvenile myelomonocytic leukaemia (JMML), a rare form of the disease.

Dad Mike and mum Claire set up the Forget Me Not fund in Charlotte's memory.

Their little girl would have been nine on November 22 and that inspired the runners to raise money for the charity.

Some were making personal landmark runs. Guisborough endurance athlete Sharon Gayter made her 150th park run, while organiser Sharon Caddell, 41, and Boro fanzine editor Robert Nichols, 50, both made their 100th run.

Mrs Caddell's mum Deirdre Forth, 63, and plumber Phil Jarvis, 42, marked number 50. …
