The Messiah Comes to City; Choral Group and Orchestra to Perform Beloved Oratorio

GYMPIE is about to experience an exciting new musical venture with the region's first full orchestra and choir rendition of excerpts of Handel's oratorio Messiah.

The Gympie Choral Group and the Cooloola Community Orchestra, which have equal numbers of singers and musicians, will combine to present the music.

This inspiring work will be presented in St Patrick's Catholic Church at 2pm this Sunday.

For the past 25 years, the Gympie Choral Group has been presenting this popular festive season work to audiences in Gympie and down the coast.

During this time, organ and piano accompaniment has been supported by small numbers of strings and brass players, adding a richness and complexity to this wonderful piece of music.

This year, however, musical directors Mary Devlin and Rhondda Morrow have collaborated to bring together musicians and choir members to present Gympie's first full orchestra and choir rendition of the famous work.

The Cooloola Community Orchestra has sourced an edition of the Messiah arranged early last century that sensitively and energetically underscores the voices of the choir and soloists. …
