Sporting All-Rounder Sticking with Cricket

CRICKET: Like many gifted athletes, Montville teenager Nick Selman has been forced to choose one sport over another.

A Queensland representative in both cricket and Australian rules football, Selman has reached the age where one sport has to give way to the continued pursuit of excellence in the other.

He chose cricket, although the 16-year-old will likely hold off on reading Aussie rules the last rites until the end of next year when he completes Year 12.

While many teens agonise over which sport or sports to drop, Selman was always going to stay with his true love Co cricket.

Recently selected in the Queensland under-17 cricket side for next month's national championships, the opening batsman for the Scorchers' reserve-grade team plans to use his dual Australian-British citizenship by travelling to England to play cricket in 2014.

His decision to stick with cricket is a blow to Aussie rules and his club Maroochydore.

A member of Maroochydore's under-18 side last season, the centre half-forward was part of the Queensland under-16 Australian football team that went to the national championships in Sydney in July.
