PAUL Andrew Barrett has spent 83 days in custody and his propensity for repeat unlicensed driving has landed him another 12-month jail sentence.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer said Barrett must serve five months in jail because of his record.

C[pounds sterling]You have a disgraceful history,C[yen] Mr Dwyer said as he read through Barrett's traffic and criminal history.

Barrett has had 10 unlicensed driving convictions in the past 10 years.

Three of those were charges of driving with a licence disqualified by court order. He was sentenced to six months imprisonment in 2009 and served time in jail.

C[pounds sterling]It would seem to me you take court orders as a matter of inconvenience,C[yen] Mr Dwyer said.

Barrett was charged with disqualified driving on February 22 after police pulled him over on Shakespeare St, prosecutor Bimal Raut said.

His licence was disqualified for four years in August 2009.

Just two months later he was again caught driving. …
