Sharks Snap Up Big-Name Star

ONLY five weeks to go to the start of the Aero Bowls Premier League Queensland season, and the South Tweed Sharks have picked up former world champion and national coach Steve Glasson to add that extra bite to the Sharks line-up.

After an agonisingly close second in 2012 grand final, the Sharks will hopefully have the firepower to go one better in 2013 and take out the title.

Along with Glasson, other top players Rod Heaton (WA), Shannon Gittoes and Brendan Hoey are expected to boost the Sharks in 2013

Glasson, who has recently announced a change of clubs from St John's Park to Mt Lewis, is excited about teaming up again with great mate and former Australian teammate Kelvin Kerkow.

aI have fond memories of my first stint at South Tweed in the mid-1990s and I can't wait to play with the Sharks this time around,a Glasson said.

Chief Executive Officer, Gordon Rhodes is thrilled to have an identity such as Glasson on board and so, too, is Glasson's old mate, Kerkow.

aThe Sharks squad is excited to have Steve with us and he will slot straight in with a minimum of fuss,a Kerkow said.

aWhile his playing role alone will be a terrific addition, his coaching and mentoring of the players around him will also provide great value.a

In the same week, the Broadbeach Bulls, the new kids on the block in Premier League, announced the signing of current Australian Open and Indoor winner Mark Casey in another major coup for the two mighty Gold Coast clubs.

Casey will be playing premier league and pennant for the Bulls. Mark will be representing the powerhouse club of St Johns in Sydney but will be playing his bowls in Queensland in the Bulls uniform.

Ryan Bester, the bowls co-ordinator at Broadbeach, is over the moon about Mark's decision to play at the Bulls.

aI have known Mark for 10 years now and he is for sure one of the top five skips in the world,a Besser said. …
