WINNER: Hayden Maloney BRAVE little Hayden Maloney has had to contend with a host of serious medical conditions during his short life. But despite it all he has emerged with a big smile on his face.

The six-year-old from Eston has never known any different. Nominating him for the Champion Child of Courage award mum Sarah said: "Nothing has ever stopped him. He just gets on with life."

Hayden was born with a blood clot in his shoulder and later suffered two seizures due to a further clot in his brain. He also developed neonatal gangrene and even fought off MRSA.

Doctors told Sarah that he was likely to be left severely disabled.

But he defied medics and is now enrolled at Normanby Primary School - where he is a popular and happy pupil. "We never thought he would be able to go into a mainstream school," said Sarah.

Mum said: "I'm just really proud of him."

Wayne said: "We would very much like to nominate Ruby as we feel she deserves it due to the horrendous time she has had.

"We came very close to losing her, but yet again, in pure Ruby style, she has bounced back.

"It would be nice to give people some encouragement, who perhaps are going through a similar time. …
