Aviation Boss Launches Own Pilot Scholarship

STEVE Padgett has had considerable success in his 50 years in aviation, but it hasn't stopped him remembering exactly where he came from.

As a financially strapped teen desperate to be a pilot, he narrowly missed an RAAF flying scholarship.

But thanks to those who saw his enthusiasm and potential, negotiations behind the scenes ensured he was belatedly squeezed into the pilot training program.

Five decades later, and he is the proud owner of Aeromil Pacific, a multi-faceted aviation business that has four considerable properties at Sunshine Coast Airport and specialises in aircraft sales, charter services, maintenance and engineering, parts distribution and pilot training.

Mr Padgett yesterday helped officially launch Flight Options, a fully equipped pilot training school capable of taking a student with zero flying experience and turning them into a jet pilot in 15 months.

He fought back tears as he proudly announced the school was offering two fully paid scholarships a one each for a young male and female from the Sunshine Coast a to repay the industry for what he was given all those years ago. …
