THE man in the hat wants him, but will Mackay's SES controller follow Bob Katter into the great void of Federal politics?

The Federal Independent flew to Mackay this week to encourage Justin Englert to stand as the Katter's Australian Party candidate for Dawson in next year's Federal election.

But Mr Englert said while he agreed with many of the KAP's principles, he was unsure if he would be permitted to run as a candidate, given his employment with Mackay Regional Council.

C[pounds sterling]At this stage nothing has been agreed on,C[yen] he said.

C[pounds sterling]I still have a couple things to talk to him about and, of course, ... I can't run for any party until I get advice from the Local Government Association of Queensland about how my employment with Mackay Regional Council affects my ability to campaign.C[yen]

Mr Englert said he also held reservations about the KAP's position on certain issues, including gay marriage. …
