Pards Must Cope with Expectations; Success Has Come at a Price for United Boss

THE last few weeks have been a big test for Alan Pardew. All managers have pressure to deal with, but Alan has heaped it on himself a little bit - simply because he did so well last year in leading the team to fifth and the Europa League.

He came in and was not the first choice, but he did brilliantly well and took the team to the brink of the Champions League.

All of a sudden the expectations became high again.

Once you get the Geordies' expectations up you have to live up to them.

When you lose a game which you are expected to win, it will not go unnoticed.

Alan knows that, but he has still done a fantastic job.

He has had a crippling injury list and he knows he just has to get through this rough patch.

There are tough games coming up over Christmas and the New Year.

Once those injuries start easing, though, I still maintain we have one of the best XIs in the Premier League.

At the end of the day, we have to push for Europe again this season. …
