A 22-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court charged with two separate rapes, two months apart.

Philip Carter, of Walton Avenue, Middlesbrough, is alleged to have raped a 19-year-old woman on August 8 this year.

He is also accused of raping a 20-year-old woman on October 17.

He appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court, on Saturday where he made no plea or declaration.

Clare Donaldson, prosecuting, outlined the case against him.

She then asked magistrates to remand him in custody until his next court appearance.

Andrew Teate, defending Carter, outlined his defence.

He made an application for bail however this was refused by magistrates.

He remanded Carter in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court on Thursday morning.

The 22-year-old broke down in tears as he was led from the dock.

In the first alleged incident, a 19-year-old woman was picked up in a distressed state by a taxi in the Tollesby Road area of Middlesbrough. …
