MARY Valley canoe and bike hire operator Ian Harling says calls to clean up dumped tyres on Yabba Creek have fallen on deaf ears.

Mr Harling said an estimated 200 tyres had been dumped on state-owned land on the edge of Yabba Creek, 2km upstream of Kev De Vere Bridge.

Mr Harling spotted the mess months ago and notified local and state authorities.

He says the council and State Government have been aping ponginga the issue between each other without taking action.

Mr Harlingas main concern is that if authorities donat act now they may not be able to clean up the mess when the wet season arrives, and the tyres will enter Mary River.

aIt is a perfect time to do it now,a Mr Harling said.

aThe banks are hard and the water level is low.a

Mr Harling said a larger flow of water from a downpour had already washed some of the tyres downstream.

Many tyres were lodged in trees, he said. …
