Pupil's Walk Raises Cash for Marine Lifesavers

A PUPIL has staged a charity walk to raise cash for lifesavers on Wearside.

Jamie Young pulled on his boots to pledge his support for his local RNLI lifeboat station.

The 12-year old, who is a year eight pupil at Sunderland's St Aidan's Comprehensive school raised PS250 to help keep the volunteer lifeboat crew at Sunderland afloat.

To raise the money Jamie, from Roker, Sunderland, was sponsored to complete a seven-mile walk from his house to South Shields.

Over the past two years Jamie has also raised PS500 for Children in Need by undertaking sponsored walks across the North East.

Now he has visited the lifeboat volunteers as they were preparing to start a recent training exercise.

And he got the opportunity to try on safety equipment that helps keep the volunteer crews warm and dry during rescue missions.

Sam Clow, volunteer crewman at Sunderland RNLI, praised Jamie's efforts and said special donations helped keep the charity operating. …
