TRL in Limbo as Boars Put Hand Up for Border Spot

THE make-up of the TRL for 2013 has been thrown into doubt again as Goondiwindi eyes inclusion in the Border Rugby League competition next year.

Goondiwindi has applied for inclusion in the Border League for 2013, with BRL delegates meeting tomorrow night in Stanthorpe to decide on whether to admit the Boars.

The move comes after Goondiwindi successfully appealed its omission from the 2013 TRL competition.

The TRL had capped its number of clubs for 2013 at 10 but Goondiwindias successful appeal against omission meant 11 teams had been accepted for next year.

Goondiwindias possible departure will allow the TRL to go back to the 10 teams it desires.

Despite toying with the idea of pushing for inclusion in Border League before applying to remain in the TRL, Goondiwindi seemed determine to continue playing in Toowoomba with its challenge at being left out.

But opinion on where to play next season seems to have changed at the club.

Goondiwindi president Peter Rice yesterday declined to comment on the application, preferring to wait until after Wednesdayas meeting before saying anything. …
