Rebuilding a Good Life for the Family

DESPITE the fact that his house, destroyed in the storm that lashed Woodburn a month ago, is being demolished today, Stewart Rofe is in great spirits.

The front half of the Bank St two-storey timber home was torn off by ferocious winds as Mr Rofe and his family sheltered in the centre of the home on the evening of November 17.

As his house was insured, but its contents werenat, Mr Rofe said he was in a better position than some of the towns residents who also suffered severe damage, but were uninsured for both home and contents.

Although he, his partner and their daughter lost an estimated $60,000 in home contents, Mr Rofe said so far his insurance company had been great, and plans were being drawn up to replace the timber and colourbond house with a new besser block and tile home.

aIt was one of the worst days of my life, I still havenat forgotten it, but now we are getting on with rebuilding,a he said.

Until their new home is built, hopefully by Christmas 2013, Mr Rofe said he and his family are enjoying living in a friendas house at Lismore. …
